Multiple Teams · Girls Basketball Ends Busy 3-game Opening Week

The Girls Basketball Team opened up their season with a busy week as they played host to Normandy and Hawken and then traveled to Bay over the weekend.

In a tough 54-70 loss to Normandy, Junior Brooke Kowalski tallied a career best 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.  Senior Destiny Jackson scored 15 points and also recorded 5 steals and 3 assists.  Freshmen Becky Styers rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points in her first Varsity game.

In the game on Friday night, the Namers were victorious over Hawken 55-39.  Senior Nicole Sabol led the charge this time recording a career best 14 points and 5 rebounds.  Brooke Kowalski followed closely with 12 points and a career best 9 rebounds and 7 assists.  Destiny Jackson led the defensive charge with 6 steals.

And capping the week was an unfortunate loss at GLC rival, Bay, in overtime 42-45.  The Namers rebounded from a 13 point deficit in the first half to tie the midway through the third quarter only to have their last second shot roll in and out at the end of regulation, which would have won the game.  In overtime, the Namers were outscored 6-3 as Bay took home the win.  Senior Molly Searles led the Green Wave in this game with a career high 12 points, followed by Destiny Jackson and Brooke Kowalski with 11 and 8 points respectively.

The Namers return to action on Wednesday as they play host to last year’s GLC champion, Elyria Catholic.
