Name and what do you currently coach?
Kim Luthman – Girls Basketball
All Sport(s) Coached:
Girls Basketball, Track
Sports played in High School
Volleyball, Basketball and Track
Favorite sports memory (as an athlete and as a coach)
There are definitely too many to mention here – but a few include: being on a team ranked #1 in the nation in college, meeting and playing with some of my very best friends in college, meeting and working basketball camp for Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee, and my favorite memories as a coach are the relationships made with my players along the way – many of which continue to this day.
Why do you coach?
I coach to continue to be around the sport I grew up loving and most importantly, I coach to have a positive impact on as many athletes as I can and to hopefully pass that love for the game on to them.
What attracted you to Holy Name?
I was hired as a history teacher first and then was asked to coach – I had heard about the rich girls basketball history at HN though, from college friends who attended HN in high school.
How are you staying active at home?
Running with my dog, doing yoga and using this time to break out of my comfort zone and try new types of workouts.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the Holy Name High School Community?
I have been super lucky to play for some really great coaches both in high school and in college. And while I didn’t realize it at the time, these coaches taught me so much more than just X’s and O’s. They not only fueled my competitive fire, but also taught me how to be a leader, how to handle adversity, and how to manage my time and be disciplined, and most importantly, how to work hard for the things I want. These are the characteristics that I hope to pass on to each of my players. Every day I am impressed and inspired by my players who not only work hard to be good basketball players, but also carry heavy loads in the classroom, perform service in their communities and even hold down part-time jobs. Doing these things and doing them well, makes me one proud coach! 🙂
