Girls Fall JV Sideline Cheer, Girls Fall Varsity Sideline Cheer · Meet the Coach – Jennifer (Abarca) Perry

Although no practices or games are on the schedule right now, Holy Name’s coaches are prepping for the seasons ahead. These men and women tirelessly prepare their teams for competition, while also teaching life lessons that will stay with their student-athletes long after the games, matches and meets are over. As you stay at home and look forward to watching the Green Wave compete once again, the Holy Name Athletic Department is happy to introduce you to the coaches leading our programs.
Name and what do you currently coach?
Jennifer (Abarca) Perry aka “Coach Jen” Head varsity and JV Cheerleading coach for football season
All Sport(s) Coached:
My entire coaching career has been in cheerleading. I spent 4 years as the head coach for both football and basketball cheer and then transitioned to just football cheer for the past 4 years
Sports played in High School
Cheerleading and Track
Favorite sports memory (as an athlete and as a coach)
As an athlete: I would have to say winning our cheerleading competitions my senior year.
As a coach: My girls will tell you I’m very emotional. I live for the feel good moments in coaching! To me, it doesn’t get much better than a warm September, Friday night, the field lights are on, the sun is setting, the players are huddled in the inflatable wave while my cheerleaders are chanting “We are HN”, the band begins to play the fight song and the boys rush the field- Welcome to Friday night football! This year’s memorable moments would have to be cheering the football team through playoffs, watching the boys basketball team upset CCC to win the district championship AND (most meaningful) walking down the aisle at my wedding to see my entire cheer team and many of their families there to support me and my new husband, Mike!
Why do you coach?
I actually never expected to coach at the high school level but here I am 8 seasons later and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. My very first year of coaching, I was the 3rd football cheer coach my seniors had in their HN career. I told myself I couldn’t let that happen to my future teams. Throughout the years, coaching has taught me so much about myself, about being a leader and about being a positive influence in the life of young women. I try (to the best of my ability) to be a mentor to the girls on my teams and I hope that they know I will be their biggest cheerleader in whatever they do, at HN and beyond! I loved every minute of my cheerleading career and I love the ability to share it with each and every member of my past, present and future teams. The most rewarding part of coaching is watching the transformation from freshman to senior year. I get to witness them learn and grow as cheerleaders and young women. Knowing I played a small part in that is very rewarding to me.
